Thank you both again for the course – who knew 6 weeks could pass by so quickly! There was such a good balance of challenge and successes, mixed with great humour. I’m so pleased that I continued on with you. Looking forward to the next one. Caren, Newbury, May 2021
I so enjoyed the courses. You both have superb skill, everlasting patience and a wonderful sense of humour. Caren, Newbury, March 2021
"The 'Four Chords' Course was my favourite so far - it catered for all levels even the 'fingerpickers' and the basic beginners. I would definitely enrol again in fact I called a friend and said I was missing my ukulele class - it was great" - Rose, Hermitage, Mar 2021.
"Really happy with the Four Chords Course - as always I learned more than I expected :-)" - Ken, New Forest, Mar 2021
"Thanks to Russ and Helen for putting on the Ukulele course in the Autumn. The zoom session was fun and helped me progress to a beginner with a few songs that I can now entertain myself with during the evenings of lockdown. The materials were comprehensive and remain in my collection enabling me to continue to progress after the course has finished. I have loved the combination of music and learning and whilst keeping myself busy trying to get even better at what we have been taught so far I am also waiting with enthusiasm for the next course that they create" Gillian Coles, October 2020
"Thanks to Russ and Helen for a very useful and enjoyable beginners Ukulele course. Provided on Zoom but no less effective in teaching me the basics and giving me the confidence to go further’. Karen. R."
"Helen and Russ’ sessions are really relaxed, happy and supportive. I have definitely learned a lot and had great fun with them and my fellow students. We even successfully switched over to temporarily meeting online to satisfy social distancing needs. Bring on the next term!" Wayne Jones, Maidenhead, May 2020.
"I’d never touched a bass uke before, nor played with others come to that. Scary! However the encouragement and enthusiasm generated by Helen and Russ zoomed me past that as they made the sessions fun and really enjoyable. I actually found myself practicing at home. Amazing! Thank you" David L. Newbury, Dec. 2019

‘The six week course was really positive, a pleasant, friendly, group in a relaxed environment. The lessons were fun, varied and well prepared to suit the pupils abilities. Highly recommend them, Helen is a brilliant teacher.’ Jill Bosley, Newbury.
"I thoroughly enjoyed my beginners Ukulele lessons with Helen. I was surprised how quickly I was able to strum along and sing with the others. It was such a relaxed atmosphere I did not feel under any individual pressure. Helen organised and structured the lessons in clear and logical way so it was very easy to follow the materials at home to practice. I highly recommend these lessons to anyone interested in learning to play the Ukulele" Pauline, Thatcham
My son was still very much a beginner when he started lessons. The relaxed teaching style made lessons fun but that did not mean they were not challenging too as Russ took the time to understand how to specifically motivate my son to achieve progress. Russ would let him decide what they did in each lesson which my son loved and this made him thrive and feel confident enough to take his first guitar exam. He achieved a high merit much to everyone's delight. Joanne Somerville, Newbury, Aug 2019.
"Although I wasn’t a complete beginner, I found Helen’s course very useful. I particularly liked her emphasis on listening to the chord changes and the encouragement to explore using our ears to find the chords. The lessons were imaginative and well- structured and we learned how to be creative as well as learning strumming patterns and a variety of techniques, all conducted in a friendly supportive group". Lynette Harper, Jan 2019
Russell has provided first class guitar tuition for my daughter. He has a flexible approach to the lessons and tailors the learning and techniques to the individual based on experience and ability. Russell has guided Eloise as a beginner and given her encouragement to progress and challenge herself and she achieved a Distinction in her Grade I.
Russell is passionate about music and this comes through in his teaching and is contagious, he has inspired my daughter to learn to play the guitar and this has also made her more confident. I would highly recommend Russell for music tuition for any age or ability. Nicky, Hermitage, August 2019
I recently attended the beginners class. Although I had played a few years ago, the classes were a great refresher. I also learnt new techniques and found Helen to be a really good teacher. She was very encouraging and helpful to all participants and encouraged us to listen to what we were playing without always watching the music which was a great way to encourage confidence. She made the classes fun and right from the first evening we were playing and singing songs
"Russell's teaching style and methods enable you to settle in to a comfortable environment therefore making learning relaxed and retainable. Your preference in genre is taken on board and Russell teaches you songs you want to learn, this means the lessons are never regimented and so much fun for any level. The one to one sessions he tailors are brilliant value and he shows genuine care and interest in the development of all students guitar playing. Highly recommend". Phoebe, Newbury, Aug 2019
"My beginners course was great fun and very well presented by Helen. A very good insight into playing the ukulele which instantly removed any doubts about playing this instrument. Our small groups worked well together, and the pace was set just right for an oldie like me. I certainly would recommend this course for first time beginners. Also the follow on group jamming sessions are fun. And Helen makes great coffee. Thanks Helen" Peter Harries, Hungerford
"At the end of last year, I had the pleasure of enjoying a course of six beginners lessons at Helen's house in Inkpen. They were held in her light and airy music studio. There were five of us and we were a real mixed bunch some who had played a different instrument before and others like me, at the age of 55, who had never picked up one before. It is very enjoyable learning and playing with others and there is no need to be able to read music or indeed have any musical knowledge.
Helen provides you at each lesson with material to take home with songs and tips on how to play the chords and strumming coupled with her leading each song with her beautiful singing and playing is infectious. We are all now ready and excited as a group to join in next Thursday night and play along with the Newbury Town Stummers at the Bowlers Arms". Jacquetta Blunt, Jan 2019
"I very much enjoyed Helen's six week ukulele beginners course. I achieved so much more than I expected. Helen's lessons were well planned, well structured and best of all enjoyable and great fun, also tribute to our fun group. Beginners work book and song sheets provided by Helen. Good skills to remember were listening to what we were playing. I highly recommend these lessons, Helen is a brilliant teacher and very inspirational." June 2019 Mary Pinder, Hermitage
